Snell Ya Later

by LS Murphy

I hate to admit it, but I was one of the few hoping Ian Snell would do what so many other pitchers had done before under the wise eyes of Dave Duncan. Sadly, he went the way of the Ponson.

The Cards optioned Snell to Memphis with hopes, according to Derrick Goold, that he may fill a long reliever role. Instead of going to AAA with a potential job, Snell decided to retire.

I wish he would've stuck it out. Do I think he would've been a Cy Young caliber starter? Nope. Not a chance. But I do think he might have been an asset in the bullpen eventually. Snell needed to work to get into his former form and he needed to work it hard. The potential was there.

So he quit instead of taking a demotion to the minors.

At 29, Snell is done. At least with the Cardinals.
