Jack Clark: A Man of the Right Words

By LS Murphy

I love Jack Clark. His comments on the September 16th edition of St. Louis Baseball Tonight on 101.1 ESPN radio were spot on.

Clark’s made blunt statements his entire career. This season has been no exception. He called out Mark McGwire for using the ‘roids and stated point blank that he thought Big Mac should be banned. Now he’s calling out the entire team for sitting on their derrieres.

He said, “I’m not seeing a lack of it, I’m seeing a pathetic effort.”

How many of us have felt the same way this season?

He went so far as to call the team “quitters”, even though “they won’t admit that they’re quitters”.

Again, how many of us have felt this way?

Clark is not just voicing his opinion but one shared by a lot of fans. Loyal fans. The fans that spend their HARD EARNED dollars to enjoy a night of good baseball at Busch and watch the Cardinals play like Cardinals, which they haven’t been doing for some time by the way.

The real question is this: What does it matter what Jack Clark says?

Nothing really. It might make Tony TV a little more exciting tonight after the game. It might put a fire under a couple of the guys’ rear ends. But in the long run, it’s just a bunch of words.

We already know that words won’t get this team into the playoffs.
