We can feel it. We can taste it. And we will soon see it. Albert Pujols hit number 399 last night at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. 400 is just around the corner, maybe even tonight.
Stan the Man Musial holds the Cardinals all time home run record at 475. Albert could easily finish the season just cresting the 400 mark. Next year, he could finish just under or right around 440. Once the team resigns him, he will pass Musial in 2012, barring injury.
Cardinal fans have known for some time that Albert is the special player of our generation. We’ve watched him grow into a nationally recognized man that he is today. We want to watch ever aspect of his career as it unfolds.
We will watch Albert surpass the Cardinal greats we heard about when we were children.
Pujols is facing Maholm tonight. His average against him is a mere .593 with one homerun. I suspect that will change tonight. I look forward to watching it.
