Cards v. Brewers

by LS Murphy

The St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers played October ball in April. The series felt like the playoffs. The rivalry only adds heat to an intense National League Central Division. Fortunately, the Cards won the series taking two out of three games. Unfortunately, we saw something we never expected to see. Chris Carpenter is vulnerable. Then again, so it Trevor Hoffman.

Thoughts:

1. Where was Carp yesterday? I don't think I'm alone with the rest of Cardinals Nation in my concerns. Carp isn't pitching like Carp. Maybe he's still a little cold. Maybe he needs to sit down and watch video. Maybe something else. I don't know. I just hope Cy Young Carp shows up in his next start.

2. Pick Your Poison - The top of the ninth inning of yesterday's game is the perfect reason NOT to turn off a game when your team is down by three runs. Especially when Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday are at the plate.

3. S-T-A-V-I-N-O-H-A First, it's pronounced "stav-en-o-ah". Second, that was an awesome massive homer off Trevor Hoffman. Third, LaRussa knows his players well enough to stick Nick behind the plate in Yadi's equipment. Who knew that Stav could be so diverse? One thing is certain, Nick Stavinoha earned his place on the bench.

Personally, I look forward to the next meeting between the Cards and Brewers. But first, the Cards can sweep the Astros in the home opener and continue their dominance in the NL Central.
