Lohse's Disappointment

by LS Murphy

Kyle Lohse signed a nice contract at the end of last season and the St. Louis Cardinals felt secure in his place in the rotation. Lohse was healthy. He was strong. And he was solid after a 15 win season.
Then fate came calling. First a right forearm injury that I'm not convinced is healed. Now a mild groin pull. Lohse is back on the disabled list for the second time this season, leaving the rotation in a flux once again.
At the start of the season, the Cardinals starters were solid. Carpenter was back. Wainwright ready, Lohse good to go, same with Wellemeyer. The only question on opening day was Pinero, but he didn't let his anger at Oquendo and the World Baseball Classic make him weak and pitiful. It made him stronger.
Lohse began his season as an extension of 2008. He was strong, solid. Then came that fateful injury. He hasn't been the same since coming off the DL. Now we can only hope that this second stint will straighten out his arm as well as heal his muscle strain. He's disappointed and that's to be expected from any competitive professional. But he needs to get 100 % healthy.
The Cards are heading into the postseason with only three ready starters and one hoping to find his form. A healthy Kyle Lohse is needed to get them the 11th Championship in Cardinals history.
