Cards looking sharp

The Cards are undoubtably one of the most exciting teams to watch in the MLB right now. With their lineup and starting five they very well could be not only a playoff contender, but a World Series contender. They have probably the best 3-4 in any order of baseball in Pujols and Holliday. Their starters look to go deep in every outing as they just continue to throw strikes and deal deep into games. It seems as they are always getting ahead of hitters in the counts and throwing strikes to get out of jams. The back end of the bullpen has been another strong point of the team. If they need a lefty out late in games, Trevor Miller can come in to get the job done. If the Cards are to face the lefty heavy lineup in the postseason of the Phillies, Miller will be the Cards main go to guy. As for the closer, Ryan Franklin has been one of the sharpest in the game. Completing a phenomenal 31 of 33 saves. He has been nothing short of tremendous. As if Franklin isn't enough to talk about, the Cards have just added future Hall of Famer John Smoltz to the mix. Look for Smoltz to start Sunday against the Padres. With the stuff he has and his ability to be an excellent big league pitcher, teaming up with Dave Duncan can only help his boost his career to what it once was. Look for the Cards to make a push at the not only the playoffs, but the Series.
